Background
HerdMaster4 begins a new generation of HerdMaster which will make for faster running and enable a large number of scheduled improvements and additional functionality. This involves a complete rewrite of the program which will be gradually released over the next eighteen months (scheduled completion end of 2011).

Compatibility
HerdMaster4 is fully compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It will not run on Windows Operating Systems prior to XP (e.g. Windows 98, or Millenium).

Installation duration
During the installation on XP or Vista machines HerdMaster will check for the presence of the 'Microsoft .Net 3.5 Framework'. If this is not present then it will be installed first. You need to remain connected to the internet whilst this occurs and it will take some time (possibly up to 30 minutes if your internet conection is slow)...be patient! Windows 7 ships with the framework pre-installed so this is not an issue.

Data file location
Once installed, HerdMaster4 will prompt you for a location for your datafile (usually 'MyHerdMasterFiles'): you are STRONGLY advised to accept the recommended location (if you are upgrading DO NOT choose your existing datafile location).

If you wish to choose another location and you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then you MUST select a location within your 'personal folder' ie <username>/Documents, failure to do so will cause problems.

Installation
If you are new to HerdMaster then all you need to do is download the full version and install it.
