I want to install HerdMaster on a new/additional computer.

  Symptom
You've bought a new or additional computer and you want to install HerdMaster - and all your data - on the new computer.

  Fix/Resolution
Setting up on a new system is very simple: first install HerdMaster on the new system then transfer your data file from the old system to the new. Finally check that the data file properties have not been changed in the process.

Install HerdMaster on the new Computer
    1. Install HerdMaster on your new system from the most recent CD (or full download) you have. More details.
    2. Download and install the latest upgrade (3.8.31). Click here to download.
    3. Start then shutdown HerdMaster to ensure the installation has worked correctly.

Transfer your data to the new computer
    1. Close HerdMaster on both computers.
    2. On your old/existing computer navigate to your data file. How?.
    3. Copy the data file to the new system (using the same process to find the correct location, how?).
Note. This will overwrite the new - empty - data file.
How do I copy the file from one computer to another?

Remove the 'Read Only' protection of your data file on the new system.
    1. Close HerdMaster.
    2. In Windws Explorer navigate to your data file. How?.
    3. Right-click the file 'HmA3Data.mdb' and select Properties.
    4. Remove the tick (if it exists) from the 'Read Only' tick box.
    5. Select 'Apply', select 'OK'.
        Background
During copy operations - particularly if using CDROM - it is common for a 'Read Only' protection to be applied to copied files. If this protection is not subsequently removed the file cannot be used by HerdMaster.

  Restart HerdMaster.
